Throughout 2020 and 2021, as schools across the globe have been conducting their classes entirely remotely or using a hybrid model, many teachers have relied on OKIOCAM as an essential part of their teacher toolkit. Without it, they wouldn’t have been able to maintain the same level of high-quality teaching that they’re used to delivering in the classroom. However, now things are starting to settle down and there is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, there are many educators out there who are beginning to discover the true power of OKIOCAM — as an amazing student learning tool.
One of those teachers is Levent Erdoğan (@MrErdoganEDU), a Hong Kong-based educator who has been using OKIOCAM with his film studies students as a way of allowing them to improve their digital storytelling skills and experience new ways of learning through the creation of delightful stop motion videos. Recently, they’ve been animating everyday objects using OKIOCAM and OKIOCAM Stop Motion to learn about the basic principles of animation.
“It’s easy to use, so it gives them the flexibility to make whatever they want”, Levent says, describing OKIOCAM Stop Motion and the creativity it unlocks in his students. The app is ultra streamlined, meaning when creativity strikes, it’s easy to go from initial concept to finished product in no time. It’s not overly complex either, so kids of all ages can have endless fun using it.
Unparalleled performance & convenience for the price
For video creation, OKIOCAM is a phenomenal value proposition. “There’s so much other stuff that isn’t required as a result of having this little USB cam”, Levent says, talking about how OKIOCAM eliminates the need for other pieces of expensive equipment in his film studies classroom. Without OKIOCAM, Levent’s students would all need a DSLR camera on a tripod to produce the same type of amazing work as they’ve been making recently. Considering the fact that even a more budget-friendly DSLR camera costs around $400–$500, the value for money offered by OKIOCAM is off the charts.
OKIOCAM is infinitely more convenient for students to use when compared to DSLRs and other more complicated camera equipment, too. There’s not a ton of confusing buttons or settings that they need to worry about before they can get underway creating their masterpieces — it just works right out of the box.
Getting students up and running with OKIOCAM is as straightforward as it gets. Remembering the first time his students used OKIOCAM Stop Motion, Levent recalls how all they needed to do was “plug it in, open up the extension, and they were ready to rock!”. We designed the setup process to be as simple as possible, so students can install it on their own computers without requiring any teacher supervision or involvement from the IT department.
The innovative space-saving abilities of OKIOCAM are one of the features that set it apart from other more bulky document cameras, especially when it comes to using it in the classroom. In Levent’s classroom (and many others!), desk space is not an overly abundant resource. However, students can use their OKIOCAMs in Laptop mode to save the maximum amount of desk space and ensure that their learning goes on unobstructed!
